COMMERCE CITY, CO – An alleged DUI driver was arrested after a deadly five-vehicle crash that happened on Highway 85 on Wednesday, Denver7 reports.
The alleged DUI driver, a 20-year-old adult, was said to have run a red light on U.S. 85 South and then struck another vehicle on the eastbound lanes on a green light. Moments later, several other vehicles crashed.
The impact of the crash caused a 50-year-old adult to be ejected from their vehicle, who then succumbed to their injuries. The other drivers survived and were hospitalized for treatment of unspecified injuries.
Commerce City Police arrested the 20-year-old adult, who faces DUI and vehicular homicide charges.
Police urged drivers to avoid the area while crews cleaned up debris from the crash. Denver 7’s very own leading traffic expert, Jayson Luber, recommended westbound Brighton Road or eastbound Sable as an alternative route.
The cause of the collision is under investigation.
