Man in his 20s killed in crash caused by speedy driver in Aurora

AURORA, CO – A man in his 20s was killed in a crash caused by a speedy driver who chose to ignore a traffic stop Thursday, Denver 7 reports.

The event unfolded around 2 p.m., when a police officer, on a motorcycle, saw that a BMW driver was going 84 mph in a 65 mph zone. He attempted to pull over the BMW driver, but he did not listen and kept driving.

The BMW driver proceeded, drove on a left-hand shoulder, and went through three lanes of traffic before taking the exit leading to Iliff.

When the BMW driver was going east on Iliff, he ran a red light and crashed into a red Honda Civic, driven by a man in his 20s. Police said the man in his 20s was making a left turn when he was struck by the BMW. His car was split in half, and he died from his injuries at the scene.

Moments later, the BMW struck a third car and a fourth vehicle. The driver of the third vehicle was in a left-hand turning lane, waiting to go south on Black Hawk. The fourth vehicle was waiting to go west on Iliff Avenue.

The motorcycle officer booked the BMW driver and their passenger into custody without incident. EMS crews also took them to a hospital as a precaution. Both were cooperative.

Aurora police closed eastbound Iliff along I-225 and westbound Iliff at Sable Boulevard for the scene clean-up process and investigation. During the closures, drivers were asked to take Jewell or Yale.
