NEAR AURORA, CO – A driver was charged in connection with a fiery tractor-trailer crash that happened on I-70 on Friday, according to KDVR.

Preliminary details show that a driver operating a 2020 Volvo tractor-trailer was going west when they rear-ended a 2026 Peterbilt tractor-trailer.

The Volo was pushed into the median, crashed, and caught on fire. Its trailer went over onto the left lane on I-70, and its plastic cargo spilled and also caught on fire.

The collision occurred just before 8:30 a.m., and fire crews were able to put out the fire at 9:25 a.m.

By 1 p.m., the majority of I-70 had reopened. All eastbound lanes were reopened, as well as one westbound lane.

South Metro Fire Department, Aurora Fire Department, Colorado Department of Transportation, Colorado State Patrol HAZMAT, and other law enforcement agencies all responded to the scene.

Aurora fire crews helped to contain the diesel fuel spill.

Colorado State Patrol confirmed no injuries and said the Volvo driver is expected to face a careless driving charge.
