News: 1 charged in connection to crash that killed woman in Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, CO – A 20-year-old woman faces several charges, including DUI, in connection to a crash that killed a 32-year-old woman earlier last month.

According to 9News, the crash happened before 5 a.m. at the intersection of Kipling Street and West 6th Avenue North Frontage Road on Sunday, Nov. 30. Preliminary details show that the 20-year-old woman crashed into another vehicle while traveling at a high rate of speed.

The force of the collision ejected the two occupants from the other vehicle, a man and 32-year-old woman, from their vehicle. EMS crews transported the two to a hospital. A few days later, the woman passed away. The man, the woman’s husband, was left with unspecified injuries. His current physical condition is unknown.

The 20-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI, Minor in possession of alcohol, Reckless driving, Vehicular assault, and Vehicular homicide. She has since been identified as Ella Cromwell.

An arrest affidavit reveals that Cromwell had consumed four shots of liquor in a span of a couple of hours while at a concert in Denver. Once the concert was over, she went to a friend’s house and left. She admitted to speeding, and the Lakewood Police’s traffic unit revealed that Cromwell had first started driving at 49 mph, then 62mph, and then 81mph while traveling on Kipling Street.

Cromwell bonded out of jail and has a next court date scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 30.
